A Fantastic Football Career

Paul kickstarted his career in Bridgnorth Town, joining the Kidderminster Harriers in 1986. He then moved onto playing with the Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1991, where he played 44 games before moving onto Stockport Country in 1996.

Paul Stephen Jones (born 18 April 1967) is a retired Welsh international football goalkeeper. During his playing career, he played for several clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Stockport County and Southampton.

When Dave Jones, the Stockport County manager, then moved over to Southampton, he signed Paul too. This was a fantastic move for Jones’ career, as he won ‘player of the season’ in 1998 and earned a call up to play internationally for Wales, becoming their number one goalkeeper.

He even played for Southampton in the 2003 FA Cup final against Arsenal. He was the first-ever goalkeeper to make a substitute appearance in an FA Cup final, which is a moment he looks back on fondly to this day.

Having been put on loan to Liverpool for a short period, Paul then left Southampton in 2004 and rejoined his old team, Wolves. Moving to Queens Park Rangers in 2006, he continued to play until his retirement in 2007.

When did the Paul Jones charity events begin?

Paul and his wife Annette organised their first charity golf day back in 2003. This was held at the beautiful Goodwood Golf Club and was initially intended to be a one-off event for good causes. As popularity grew, however, the couple realised they had a real opportunity to make a difference.

Over the subsequent years, these events grew rapidly and they now host a wide range of different charity days up and down the country at some incredible venues. From the beautiful Loch Lomond to Burhill, Wentworth, East Sussex National and many more.

Next year will be the twentieth anniversary of these charity events beginning and this is an incredible milestone that both Paul and Annette are both extremely proud of. They are so passionate about running these amazing events while raising funds for fantastic causes. They do all of this work voluntarily and every penny raised goes to charity.
